The Alaafin of Oyo Oba Lamidi Adeyemi 111 is not dead, his media assistant ‘Bode Durojaiye has said.
It was earlier reported that the highest Yoruba monarch has passed away,
Alaafin Adeyemi, the third of the ruling house of Alowodu, is believed to have died in the final hours of Friday at the University Hospital of Afe Babalola, Ado Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State in southwestern Nigeria.
The report said the remains of the traditional Yoruba leader were brought to Oyo town, 62 kilometers from Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state, in the early hours of Saturday and traditional rites began, Palace sources told the newspaper.
However, his media office denied the story saying that “Oyo’s Alaafin Media and Publicity Manager’s Office has been made aware of a false report making waves in social media, by a group of disgruntled bloggers., about the imaginary death of His Imperial Majesty, IKu Baba Yeye, Oba (Dr.) Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi 111, the Alaafin of Oyo.
“Members of the public are hereby requested to disregard the unsubstantiated report, as the Supreme Ruler is vigorous and warm-hearted.
“Specifically on Monday and Tuesday this week, Oba Adeyemi accompanied by some of his wives (Ayabas), children, helpers and supporters were at Durbar Stadium, Oyo for physical fitness exercises as usual.
“He hasn’t fallen ill or rushed to hospital with a serious illness, which is why he and his family remain nimble and active.
“The general public should have no fear, as IKu Baba Yeye is healthy, physically fit and mentally stable.”
