Google extends timeline to migrate from Google Classic Sites to New Sites

Google has extended the deadline for migrating Workspace customers from classic Google Sites to the new version of Google Sites to facilitate the migration process.

Here is the new timeline:

  • As of December 1, 2022 (formerly June 1, 2022): You will no longer be able to edit the remaining classic sites for your domain.
  • From January 1, 2023 (formerly July 1, 2022): Classic sites will no longer be visible unless converted to new Google sites.

End users and administrators can use the Classic Sites Manager to complete the migration and convert individual classic sites to new Google Sites before December 1, 2022. After the migration, your classic sites will no longer be available.

After January 1, 2023, Google will replace each remaining classic site with a Takeout archive and attempt to convert each classic site into a new Google site, the company said.

“We are extending the previously announced schedule to give Google Workspace customers more time to migrate from classic Google Sites to new Google Sites,” Google wrote in a blog post on Monday.

It’s worth mentioning that this schedule change will not impact the transition for users with personal Google Accounts.
