WAITE PARK – Live theater returns to central Minnesota this weekend.
GREAT Theater kicks off its season with its first ever outdoor production starring Rodgers and Cinderella of Hammerstein.
Choreographer Allyson richert says that an outdoor production brings a whole new set of challenges. She says the cast spent several days rehearsing in the parking lot to make use of the elements and a larger stage.
When you’re inside you know what’s going to happen. When you’re outdoors, especially in the summer in Minnesota, you never know what’s going to happen. So trying to prepare actors who have never had this experience before can be difficult.
This iconic Broadway musical is sure to entertain the whole family, with jaw-dropping transformations, incredible special effects and wonderful music.
Hillary Vermilion is the musical director of the show. She says after such a quiet year, it was emotional to see life come back on stage for the first few days.
I feel like the arts are a heartbeat for the community. Now that we are back in the same place and hearing that sound was really moving for everyone because we are used to being in this type of environment all the time.
Tickets for the show are $ 42 for adults and $ 28 for students and can be found online.
Sessions will take place Thursday through Saturday from 8:00 p.m. at the Ledge Amphitheater in Waite Park.
