The blow Ignacio Bahamondes used on Saturday to finish off his UFC opponent Roosevelt Roberts at the Apex facility in Las Vegas was a thing of the past.
Bahamondes, a 23-year-old lightweight from Chile, was likely topping the judges’ scorecards as he was, by far, the busiest athlete inside the Octagon.
He was also the flashiest, as he had repeated spinning attacks for much of the three-round fight.
But with only a few seconds remaining in the contest, it looked like there was no knockout and a decision would have to be made.
Then the Bahamondes kicked around.
The strike connection could be clearly heard on the show as it seemed to resonate in the empty studio. Moments later, Bahamondes’ body hit the canvas and the comment booth was dismayed at the end.
The young had done it – a knockout blow for the ages.

The victory brought the Bahamondes pro MMA record to 12 wins (nine knockouts and three decisions) against four losses.
It also made him richer by $ 50,000 as the UFC rewarded him with a performance of the nightly bonus check.
The event ended with a middleweight bout between Jared Cannonier and Kelvin Gastelum, which Cannonier won by decision after five rounds.
