Police are looking for gunmen who killed two people and injured a teenage girl in front of the community center


SOUTHWEST OF MIAMI-DADE, Florida Authorities are investigating after two men in their early 20s were shot dead in broad daylight, not far from a police station and directly across from a Miami-Dade County community center and park .

A 17-year-old girl was also shot and wounded.

Two bodies could be seen covered in yellow tarps in the southwestern Miami Dade neighborhood, where a crime scene tape was blocking the streets.

The victims were surrounded by evidence markers that were next to the shell casings. The front of the house was riddled with bullets.

Miami-Dade Police said they responded to reports of gunfire at the SW 216th Street and 114th Court apartment complex just before 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

When police arrived, they discovered that two men in their 20s had been shot dead and a 17-year-old girl seriously injured after also being shot.

“It was at 2:50 p.m. on a Saturday. A lot of people are on the move; someone had to see something, ”Miami-Dade Police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said.

According to detectives, three men approached the victims, who were standing outside the apartment, then started shooting before taking off in a car.

Investigators are still trying to find out why.

“What was the motive for this? At this shoot. For them to come over and open fire like that? Zabaleta asked.

Local 10 was at the scene for much of the day as neighboring residents and family members consoled each other after learning of the violent killings that took place just across the street from the Goulds Park Recreation Center.

“We watch two people in their twenties who have just started their lives, we watch a 17-year-old woman who almost lost her life, in front of a community park at 2:50 pm on a Saturday afternoon,” Zabelta says. “You’re supposed to be enjoying your weekend. If that doesn’t motivate you to call Crimestoppers, I don’t know what will.

Police hope someone will provide information on what led to the shooting.
