The Celtics don’t “spin” George Baldock, no matter how many Clickbait sites write about it.

Today another non-story but this time with mainstream media and trending only clickbait blogs claiming to know things they don’t. And I’m not talking about the Celtic sites, most of which have knocked down this holey trash can, as it deserves.

The story in question says that we are preparing to attack George Baldock, the right-back we were constantly linked with last season and have not moved for. Whatever interest the club may have had in him, he did not survive contact with Plan Ange.

I think Baldock may have been on the list that Eddie Howe was working from. He fits that profile. Nobody would have questioned it. Baldock would have given us something at right-back as well.

He is a good player, with a lot of experience.

But he would have been ridiculously expensive, and at 28 he hardly fits the profile of the club. I’m not saying there’s no room for experience, but we definitely did the right thing by moving a player who was considered a ‘comer’ instead of a deal with Sky Sports Scouting.

Baldock went off the radar the moment Ange tossed Eddie Howe’s list aside. His name was of course not the only one on this list; some of them, like Ben Davies, continue to be linked to us despite Ange obviously not being interested.

The media largely stay away from the story. Which is smart.

Because there’s nothing in it, and there still would be nothing in it if Juranovic’s stories were true, and this Baldock story rests entirely on the basis that it is, removing old discredited ground and recycling the pish, about links with Atletico Madrid (denied by that club) and the idea that he is ‘expected to leave’ (denied by anyone close to the story).

All the Celtic sites that have written about this story have dismissed it as pure fantasy, and that’s good because that’s what it is.

The story mixes various strands of absurdities that have already been refuted.

This is not speculation; it is a fiction designed to achieve success.

That’s why it should be ignored.
