The Cloud too
A Trackmania The console release is slated for “early 2023,” according to an announcement made today in a Ubisoft Forward stream.
The given window right now is “early 2023”, and PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Stadia, and Luna were specifically mentioned in the reveal (as were “cloud platforms”). Cross-play and cross-progression are also confirmed in advance, which is a nice surprise that doesn’t require us to dig into a hidden FAQ to figure out if it’s actually planned or not.
In case you forgot, Trackmania is the short title of the 2020 version of the series, which launched as a free-to-play game. To date, an annual “club-level” subscription costs $29.99, which has always drawn the ire of many would-be players. As Ubisoft says, you can: “Enhance your experience with standard access and unleash your creativity. Play solo or multiplayer on seasonal campaigns and track your progress with a collection of medals, trophies, and regional and global leaderboards.
The combination of being only available on PC and the subscription model has squarely put Trackmania 2020 in the “maybe” column since launch. At this point, being able to boot it quickly on a console might inspire me to give it another shot.
