What innovative teachers really think about the challenge | THIRTEEN

The first week of May is Teacher Appreciation Week, a time to celebrate and honor educators for the incredible work they do throughout the year. The past two years have been particularly challenging for teachers, filled with both enormous challenges and inspiring discoveries. To show gratitude to teachers locally and nationally, the WNET group has worked closely with the WNET PBS Digital Innovators (a local PreK community – 12 educators selected for their bold and innovative pedagogy) to amplify the voice of teachers, honor their work and celebrate the teaching profession.

  • Catch the Digital Innovators (ID) on WNET New Jersey broadcast channels and network! Throughout the month, these educators will be featured on local stations Thirteen, WLIW and the NJ PBS network. You can also view these one-minute videos on social media by following THIRTEEN oninstagramandTwitter.

  • Hear from four of WNET PBS’ bold digital innovators as they share personal stories and reactions to the many challenges they face as educators today. They are invited to the WNET UP NEXT Podcast this week. Hannah Dawe and Kristina Kirley from the Department of Children’s Education and WNET Group Media also appear in the episode to speak with Tom Stewart (you’ll recognize his voice from the on-air announcements) about how the local program Digital Innovator got started.
  • Get to know digital innovators one-on-one with their selfie video series on Youtube. These short videos, produced by the IDs, highlight their discoveries, their inspirations and their wishes in terms of education.
  • Lily “A love letter to our fellow educators”, a funny and understanding ode to teachers, co-written by the WNET PBS Digital Innovators. He expresses admiration, recognition and affirmation towards his fellow teachers all over the world.
  • See quotes from our own IDs and other educators from across the country at PBS teachers social media platforms: Instagram: @pbs.teachers and Twitter: @pbsteachers

The WNET Group is proud to partner with educators and honor their work throughout the year. This week, we invite our local communities to join us in celebrating their passion, commitment and tireless efforts towards the teaching profession.
